I'm currently winning
my office's NCAA pool, in case you were wondering. Haven't watched a game all year. There's the value of expertise for you. I'm the Al Gore of basketball. [Except for the being right part.]

But that's not my point. Later today, North Carolina will play Louisville for a chance to go to the Final Four. [I've got NC.] Right now, North Carolina's women's team is playing Louisville's women's team. For a chance at the final four. What are the odds of that?

Speaking of people leaving
[My last post being about Favre's retirement and all..]

Gary Gygax, creator of Dungeons and Dragons and friend to all who never had a date on Saturday night, has missed his final saving throw. He's now on his way to the big Gen Con in the sky, where the beer is always cold and the fireballs always roll sixes.

I call dibs on his Sword of Wounding!

What's your favorite Brett Favre story?
[Yeah, I've been waiting for about three years to write this post.]

I have two. I don't recall exactly what year they happened, but they were both pre-Super Bowl.

Red zone: Robert Brooks runs a slant pattern. As he crosses the goal line he turns and raises his hands at the last possible second, just in time to catch the ball Favre had already thrown. After the game, when asked how he knew the ball would be there, he said "I heard it coming."

Favre could wing it pretty good, they say.

Second story. Early in his career, while Steve Mariucci was still the quarterbacks coach, the Mariuccis had (the still single) Brett over for dinner one night. In December, perhaps January, subzero temperatures, Brett shows up in shorts and flipflops. It snows several inches in the few hours he's there. Well of course Brett doesn't have a scraper so Mariucci offers to come help him clear his car off, but Brett says no, that's okay, and drives away with the window rolled down and his head sticking out so he could see.

I'm sure I'll think of others. [For example, during the Super Bowl against the Patriots, John Madden told how Brett could pick up a baseball with his toes. Freak.]

I wish we could have had one more year, but it's been a great ride!

UPDATE: one of Lance's BBA co-bloggers is looking for Brett Favre stories.
